Inspired by other post of MLE vs. DE. Putting together a TC ranking for tech. Obviously job titles are getting muddied these days, but for most companies what's the ranking of: - RS, Research Scientist - SWE, Software Engineer - DS, Data Scientist (real ones not SQL/Excel junkies) - DE, Data Engineer - MLE, Machine Learning Engineer - MLS, Machine Learning Scientist - AS, Applied Scientist - DA, Data Analyst (SQL/Excel junkies, from the BI side, limited programming ability) So far I figured the following TC order: RS > MLE = SWE = SRE > DE > DS > DA Is this correct? Does anyone know where MLS and AS lie in the TC ranking?
are you sure about DE > DS?
Is that not the case? This is my approx ranking from reading through past posts. It's not guaranteed to be right.
I think DS > DE >= DA. DS has a lower coding bar than SWE but they should have a applied math/stats background. They’re not applied scientists because they lack PhD level background though.
At Amazon: RS < SDE ( i think, but unsure) and AS > SDE (I’m sure). MLS is the same job family as AS.
Where is EE in all of this?
Not true, EE and CS in many schools are same, many EE phds do ML dissertations.
MLE = SWE is somewhat acceptable but MLE == SRE? I don't think so.
At Amazon there is no such job family as MLE or MLS. People with MLE title are usually actually SDEs and MLSs are Applied scientists. Data scientists are more sql junkies with masters level math background and the comp is approximately: DS < RS = SDE < AS

No SRE ?
Can always add more. Just slot in where you think SRE is in that list.
