TC negotiation

I am an IC6 (non tech) with current TC of 400k, in the bay area. I have an offer from Microsoft for L65 for $350k, in Seattle. Recruiter says they cant pay more and this is comparable to what i make today because of no state income tax and low cost of living. Should I accept? Have people seen similar chnages when moving?

Bigger TC = bigger credit lines. You can just do more with more.

Do you prefer Seattle or Bay? Which role is more interesting? That’s the answer to your question. Difference in TC is negligible with no WA state taxes and Seattle has lower CoL.

Yes. You need to decide on the geographical location. Not everyone likes Seattle weather. So, you got to make up your mind on that.

Nope reject, TC should stay flat at the min. The upside of lower costs of living and no state tax is your benefit, not the company

Do what makes you happy. There's more to life than money you know.

Stock appreciation I guess

I’d take it in a heartbeat— but I love Seattle and don’t much care for the Bay Area. That’s very personal though. If you like Seattle then go for it

A friend of mine is over 400k 64. They can definitely beat 350k. Walk away.

Well that's a weak response from them. Ask for out of band approval or thank them and stay.

What’s the TC split? That matters
