TC obsessed friend

I’ve had this friend for almost 10 years, been in same high school & college, we have fun together and share lots of personal secrets with each other, Ive put all my trust in him. Now we both get decent jobs out of school -!: work for a few years. (hes at another company tho) But now he seems to turn into someone else, hes extremely obsessed with TC, almost every recent conversation between us is about he heard “another friend” got ***K TC from company ABC, someone just got a promotion, he wants to increase TC by **% in next year, etc. I’m feeling a little uncomfortable or even sick of hearing those topics constantly, and I feel like our values are two worlds apart now, and those conversation also make me feel extremely stressful and unhealthy. This person seems no longer to be the person I used to know. Should I just cut tie with him? But I know him for many years and been good buddies til now. Is he being toxicized and brainwashed by bay area environment? Or is it normal during the process called “grow up”? Im still quite young and wanna hear your guys’ thoughts. 3 YOE 250K
