I was able to contribute significantly because I was almost working like 996 for first couple of years. I was able to learn faster because of the team members and open source contributions.

It's only after joining uber I decided to relax and take it easy.

I know that for whatever role you interview, the best you will be given is 40% of your previous base when you're already at 15lpa+, in a FAANG company. I've seen Microsoft, Google and Amazon's salary negotiations. Even if you're joining at a higher level, switch hikes I see here seem too high to me. Moreover, having worked in such companies, I know the normal annual hike to be around 7-10%. What am I missing here? I'm not saying that people are not getting that much, but some of the hikes given here are borderline ridiculous. Speaking to an average guy who finds this all strange, no, this is not the norm in India, certainly exceptions. Work hard, try to enjoy your work, always learn something new, and you'll get paid well, but some of these figures are a dream, kudos to these guys.

    • The secret is to get multiple competing offers.
      Jun 9, 2020
    • I got 90% hike when I joined Qualcomm without competing offers. At Qualcomm, each title has a pay band -when one is hired at a title, there is a minimum amount of salary that one needs to be offered, that is irrespective of the candidate's prior salary. If the candidate's prior salary is already in the band, then it is mostly 20-30% hike but not crossing the higher end of the band. There are cases when the candidate was simply told that they can only get 10% hike and they can't offer the next band due to interview performance or lack of opening at that band.
