Transition from L6 SDE to L6 SDM. Can I expect any TC bump? Current TC - 320k
320k is pretty good! And for tech companies, SDEs > SDMs of same level anyday.
Not in the eyes of anyone up the chain of command at Amazon. Sadly SDEs at Amazon are just replaceable grunts like FC Associates.
Same applies for managers as well. You can become a distinguished engineer like James Gosling and be nothing more than a face value :) Btw, engineering level goes upto L11 as well.
May be 370k-420k range. Want to understand why you are transitioning from SDE to SDM ? In similar boat.
The same reason you all do: you hate coding, you dream of the day you’ll be free of it, and you are a good salesman who can pretend you love it and are really good at it.
never hated coding....hated the f**ing standups and people pestering with status every day. And the stupid agile where everything is half baked ..but every one wants a proper product by the end of 2 weeks....that caused me lot of stress.....to build things without even having proper solid design/architecture and switched to the solution architecture side..its lot peaceful and relaxing here
600k? Who is paying 600k for SDM? Any real data around this?
L6sdm to L7sdm is comparatively easier compared to engineers, I have seen people making the jump because of that
That's what one of my friend at Amazon told me as well and hence he moved to managerial role. Still dont know what managers exactly do and why there are so many.
Yoe ?
Would you please break down the TC at amazon? When you say 320k TC, how much is cash, how much is stock from prior year? And if I am asking for 450TC, is it possible to get 250k base and 200 RSU?
Not likely. Your base probably is going to cap out at less than half your TC
