Hi blinders, Need a help in making a decision with an offer. I got offer in Xilinx (now AMD) to work on deep learning processor arch. I got a pay rise of 20% including RSUs which is lower than my current projectile at samsung. But, Samsung doesnt give RSUs. A bit of context, I have no prior work-ex in AI/ML. I cracked the interview by self study and hard work. I could jump to FAANG companies for a higher TC but I am not excited about non-AI roles, and I am afraid that I might end up not getting into AI/ML teams as I don't have prior-exp in that area. Please suggest if it is worth moving for a low rise in TC. Offer Base: 175k Joining bonus: 20k Perf bonus: 12% RSU: 140k/4 yrs TC: 205K Yoe: phd + 3 yrs #hardware #interview #semiconductor #DL #AMD #ai
Keep in mind that target bonus % may change after the merger - could be higher or lower depending on the position you get
AMD gives 15% for the same level
How did you prepare for the role? What all topics did you self study and what was your prior background domain?
There are plenty of youtube videos on deep learning. I work in comp arch.
If you are into comp arch, study some research papers on how TPUs/systolic arrays are designed.
Def take it! Did you do some projects in this domain too?
Just got my hands dirty on tensor flow and some numpy.. just theoretical knowledge in hw.
Not worth it
The new position will be much better for your career. I would take it for slightly less TC. Do that for a few years then jump to FAANG if it's still a thing at that point.
What do you do at Samsung? You self studied your way into an Ai/ML role? The offer looks good
SSD arch. Yes.
