Received an offer but company reputation not so good

Apr 20 4 Comments

Hi All,

I had multiple rounds of interviews for a PM role. The people seemed good and the offer is good as well. However, I do no see good reviews about the organization on Glassdoor as well as Blind. Should I still think of joining or stay away?

Once bitten, twice shy :)

  • Thank you Pie 3.14. Appreciate your insights. This is very helpful and a different way of looking at it which I had missed. Since it was getting muddier, I declined the offer today because of all the yellow/red flags. Will continue my search. Hopefully land something better soon. Once again, appreciate your thoughts.

Assuming that TC bump is not the factor for your decision—

Do you like the new manager? Do you think he will be your manager for the foreseeable future?

If the answer to either of these questions is NO. Then don’t take it.

Your manager defines your progress and WLB in the company. Everything else is not meaningful in the long run

    • Well it is funny. I haven't had a chance to talk to the hiring manager since he has been OoO. I brought this up with the recruiter when they mentioned they will have me talk to the HM's manager instead.

So I haven't spoken to the HM yet.

      Any thoughts/advice? @Pie3.14

OP- Your managers managers has a goal to increase the size of team showcase strong hires hence they are asking you to talk to a snake charmer. However, if you can’t sync with your manager… your VP/Sr. Dr is not going to waste his breath on shielding you when shit hits the fan.

The next best thing is to, talk to manager’s business partner and/or his direct reports(more than 2-3)

At my previous firm(Forthne 50), I had 5 managers and 4 VP and 3. Sr. Dir. in 2 years( All my managers were either horrible or newbie who would put anyone under the bus to save their hide). My promotion was shot down 2 times due to manager.

You work for your manager and get paid from the company.
