While this is generally good advice, you’re only looking at one dimension. Some of those Uber engineers who got laid off probably built impressive resumes working on large scale distributed systems. Theres not many companies where you can work on cool real time shit. Apple doesn’t even contribute to open source.
This.
Doesn't matter. In the end, the house always wins.

How about Apple? (I have an offer from them) What's your yoe and level for that 300 TC?
Join Apple if it's a good division and pay. We'd never have layoffs and are recession-proof with 200B dollars in the bank.
If you think you can't be laid off just because Apple has some cash in the bank, you're ignorant. When the recession comes and when Apple's margins fall, they're going to do what it takes to keep shareholders happy. No matter what they have in the bank.
How did you learn? You got laid off?
layoffs and firings happen even to profitable companies. besides overhiring, this also probably meant uber wasn't proactive enough in pipping out low performers in the past. afterall, the techcrunch article mentioned they lifted the hiring freeze.
Is it recession already?!
Everything happens for reason and there’s always something good associated with it. Recruiters will not be stalking these engineers and i hope that they get a much better opportunity witn their impressive background!
Edit your comment it says the total opposite of what you wanted to say 🤣
