Why am I asked to pay a tip even before the driver delivers the food ? Door dash charges a service charge , a delivery charge and then a tip. Why can’t you pay your employees well? I ordered food for $60 , The delivery charge was $9.99 , service charge of $6.99 , Tip : $9, Total: $86! Even take out orders - Why tip? I sometimes feel pressured to tip even if I don’t want to, And I am also a person who has tipped up to 50% when the service was exceptionally well . Should we tip for the exceptional service that we receive and not just because we are pressured ? People should be paid well and not put them on a spot we’re they have to survive on tips. Am I being insensitive here or is this a valid thought ?

I never tip Doordash or Uber Eats. Tip for what? Doing your job? Please. Already paid a heck load of service fees for that on top of my bill. I’ll tip a waiter 15% any day for waiting on me, filling up my water, listening to my order, serving it, and cleaning up after me. Delivering food? No way.
Actually, I lied. I pay a 1$ tip every time because I feel they’d spit in my food or something if I don’t.
A waiter brings you water. A delivery driver goes to a restaurant, waits, picks up food, drives their car to your house, drops off food. That's less work?
Tipping up front doesn’t make sense to me sometimes I get a dick driver that doesn’t deserve it
Remove it if they don't do the job
You can take it back and the reviews are submitted afterwards
I understand your point. It's not as simple as saying don't tip as it becomes awkward. But gotta do it man.
The delivery drivers are not employees, they are independent contractors. They get just above minimum wage and if you factor in gas, vehicle maintenance etc. they don’t make much. These platforms have a lot of cost and unless they scale significantly, cost won’t come down. Also, remember you are getting a service here and not just a product (food). You needing to tip is a result of consumer/capitalist America at its best - companies exploiting contractors, consumers wanting more for less etc.
And make the customers tip even before we get the service ? That isn’t fair !
I don’t disagree with your point. But I believe you have the option to change the tip post delivery.
I agree on not tipping upfront. Once I added $5 in $20 food and he dropped off near elevator and I was living on 4th floor on the other side of elevator. I checked the photo of delivery and found out it was near elevator even though I provided him all the instructions.
That’s the cost of laziness or saving time to drive and pick your own food. These drivers don’t make much, not even hourly wages many days, I always tip them not much but a few $. 9/10 times I drive and pick up after ordering on phone - when I can’t - I tip the driver, IMO we all should.
Cost of laziness is 40% extra I pay to DoorDash for food delivery.
You tip before so they know to prioritize your order and not mess with your food.
I think they just don’t like u
Don't think drivers care who you are, they are doing a job and care about earning money.
same question, I paid delivery fee and platform fee, why tip drivers?

I don’t tip lol. They literally signed up to be a driver and go get my food, why will I pay extra to use the service as-is. I tip in sit down places because if the waiter treats me well and makes it a good experience, that is beyond what they were hired to do (which is take my order get the food and fuck off) I will only ever pay for what I am receiving, not more.
Wow. Let me guess, your idea of a generous tip at a sit-down restaurant is like 10%? While the food delivery person did sign up to be a driver, a big incentive is tipping. It’s pretty bogus to stiff people who are just trying to make it by performing a service that makes your life even more convenient. Especially as someone who is making great money in tech. Maybe stop being lazy and go get your own food? - Someone who grew up with nothing and had to work in restaurants for years when they were younger.
To each their own I’m not gonna argue with u bud
