I will soon be joining #Microsoft redmond.

I saw some 1b1b apartments in Bellevue and Redmond area, but the new ones are $2k+(out of my budget) and even the old ones are like $1800 - i was fine with $1800 but now i am discovering that utilities cost another $300 on top of this rent, which takes it past my budget.

So i started looking for apartments in areas like Bothell, which has some 1600-1700 new apartments but gmaps says commute is 25+ mins. Is that commute too bad in peak hours?

Does Microsoft shuttle go to those areas?
Can someone suggest areas/communities where i can look for new apartments in which total cost including utilities and parking stays below $1900 ?

  • Also try to find something in Seattle if it's cheaper and commute to Redmond by light rail which is coming up soon . Could be way cheaper than a rental close by in Redmond .

  • I wouldn’t stay in Bothell if renting. You might find apartments under 1.8k 1bd, but make sure you tour them, and are ok with staying at such apartments.

    • Hmm. Well, Everything is expensive. I’d bite the bullet and commit to $500 more a month. You’ll be happier and it will be safer and you’ll have a lot more to choose from. Ping me offline and I’ll give you my MSFT contact info.

To AwTw15's comment - Commute from Bothell won't be half as bad if you can have hybrid model at work. Many families rent in Bothell. Gets you more sq footage for your $

Rents are expensive here these days :/ even COVID didn’t slow it down. You can get a 2b2b for $2500; where as 1b1b costs you $2000.
