As a Canadian citizen, would I qualify for TN1 visa if I get a Data Scientist job offer from US? I always thought it’s not a problem to get a TN1 for a data science role when you have a degree in math/stats/physics/computer science, but my friend is telling me it’s hard. She said it’s not technically part of NAFTA, and it depends on the officer whether they’re gonna approve you or not. Do you guys know if it’s true? Any advice? Did anyone go for H1B instead (as a Canadian citizen) ?
When I was in that boat the company modified my title to data engineer for Visa purposes. My LinkedIn and role was ML however.
Oh wow that’s interesting! I’m worried though that they don’t even want to interview me... Maybe if they would interview me and would decide to hire - then they wouldn’t mind doing all of that. But for now they just cancel interviews ....
Yah if they want you theyll go that extra mile typically. Try startups. Big companies have too many applicants to want to go through that hassle unless they can't find an easier replacement.
OP - Any update?
Op any update?
I am a Canadian currently applying for TN. I would suggest talking to the company that is going to file your application. Their lawyers will figure out the best course of action. Secondly, the lawyers can file your TN petition with USCIS before you show up at the border. It's a slightly safer option since you won't be completely at the mercy of the officer.
Thank you so much for your response! I will look into the second option! For the first one: and what do you specify in the form when they ask you if you require sponsorship? I say I need TN1 visa, and here is what happened: 1) Analytics team at Facebook said it’s all good and invited me onsite (didn’t get the job though) 2) Another team at Facebook said their immigration team said “no” and they cancelled my interviews 3) Twitter emailed me for the phone interview with hiring manager, but when I said that I’m going to need TN visa, recruiter said she will look into it, and never got back to me ... So I’m trying to understand if there is anything I can do on my side to stop getting visa-related rejections ( I have enough of Interview-related rejections lol ) ..
One thing that I think I should stop doing is saying “I’m going to REQUIRE TN sponsorship”. I just now realized I can apply for it myself, so I shouldn’t say I need sponsorship.. not sure if it’s going to help though.
