Because this app all likes to shit on everything non FANG or "tier one" companies. I get it, some people here are trying to prove something (to themselves or to who knows who else) so the reputation of the company name comes before anything else (like WLB, great managers, amazing coworkers, etc)
Yeah Zynga doesn't pay FANG level TC (although with the stock appreciation in the past 3 years some people, me included, are inadvertently at that level now). When I joined I thought I would just do it for one year as a little break from the rat race (I was too stressed out and overworked). Now I can't go back to long hours, stupid managers who only throw you under the buss to cover their asses, constant pip threatening etc. The way I see it I traded 15% of FANG TC for 100% better quality of life.
That's why you see the good reviews in Glassdoor.
That being said, the company is growing super fast in the past year and a half so things may change. They still haven't tho so I'm riding it.
Let me be clear, what I tried to say is I'm not looking forward for the changes that will happen with the way the company is growing.
One thing that will happen with growth is more pressure on certain products to perform above expectations or be cut off if they don't. This will put an enormous pressure on teams that used to have a good WLB.
Another one is your manager is suddenly going to have 12 direct reports instead of 5 or 6 (due to hiring frenzy). Which means your manager now has less time to manage your goals and careers. This I jave experienced recently and I was very, very vocal about how wrong this is.
I was there for quite some time. Tech stack is obselete and you would have hard time switching jobs. No one can say anything to PMs in Zynga even if they screw badly. No wlb for engineers. Mostly PMs in higher management, and they treat all others as second class.
