How is the org and tpm role at FAIR (FB AI Research)? I heard that a massive reorg is going on there. I am currently a PM and like being technical. Will switching to TPM affect me negatively? TC: 210k 9yoe
PMs aren’t technical at all in FB though. I have 9 years of enterprise background and more recently in AI / ML.
Oh and there are no PMs in this org. There won’t be looks like.
I'd be a little weary of switching over to TPM for FAIR or any research team. The sheep you'd be herding probably have never worked with a TPM before or know why you're there. They're usually not used to dealing with schedules or having to deal with deadlines/milestones and so it makes your job infinitely harder. Product TPM at FB can be hit or miss. I've seen a lot just relegated to note takers/meeting organizers while others are super involved in architecture discussions and roadmap planning. Depends on the team and how technical/knowledgeable you are and how you can prove your seat at the table.
Good to know, thank you!
