After Hackerrank and a coding phone screen, was asked to come Onsite recently. First 3 rounds were all hands on an IDE. I did all with unit test. But after lunch break HR came and said you can pack and leave. Not sure why 🤔
I did the first HackerRank problem for 2S. I had recently done 2 other HRs for other companies (all 3 from the same recruiting agency), and felt fed up. I looked at the second problem, did nothing and immediately hit submit. I knew before the HR that I didn’t stand a chance, so I didn’t waste any more time. At least you tried! It’s obvious that 2S tries to act like Google, but their hiring needs are not nearly as sizable as Google. Yet they keep a constant hiring mill like Google but only hire the “best” ones when they need it.
If you come in for an interview, it means there is an opening you are being considered for. But you are right that we can be more picky then Google and FB and have a hire bar since we don’t need to hire as many engineers. The HR is supposed to be easy and just filter out people who can’t really code. Unfortunately it’s not perfect, but if it was hard for you then you wouldn’t have made it through the morning interviews either.
The HackerRank was not hard, I just picked a bad moment to start the assessment. Once you hit the start button there’s no turning back. I was okay throwing it out after the first problem because I knew I wouldn’t succeed at the on-site, I’m too old. BTW great usage of “we this” and “we that” — I effing hate that.
Congrats on making it that far
Don’t think of it as failing halfway, think of it as succeeding halfway!
it’s standard. They should’ve told you that they reject a majority of candidates after lunch. Though, I made it past lunch and was still rejected even though I did very well on behaviorals... who knows!
I see. Not sure what exactly they are looking for when people say they hire only "genius". I am wondering how do they evaluate that?
They don't only hire geniuses. If you can pass Google/FB interviews you should make it to afternoon on average. After that, it entirely depends on how your skills match the needs of teams and how much the hiring managers like you. Remember it is a much smaller company than Google/Facebook, so passing the technical bar isn't always enough. They have the luxury of being as picky as they want.
How did team dynamics pan out? Any visible assholes in the panel? It happened to me with Amazon, the bar raiser was a douche. It’s more common than you would think.
Bro raiser at it again
Serf, same happened to me at amazon, the bar raiser was stupid.
