Talking to a VP at Capital One as an interview—what should I know?
As title says. It’s just a “chat” but seems like an interview. Says he wants to get to know me. What should I look into to prepare? Strategy role. Edit: VP like head of the group.

Does asking “what’s in your wallet” get you fired there?

Keep in mind that in Cap One sr. Managers are people managers.
Not always. We have many individual contributors at the senior manager level in my org.
Also we have sr managers that manage multiple managers
You can be an individual contributor up to the VP level
Back to the original question, I also had to have a ‘chat’ with my VP. They just want a sense of your passion and drive. CapOne has a big problem with “lifers” who have been there 15+ years and are used to the old way of doing things, they are lazy and don’t stay current in things (for the most part)
These are what they call Job Fit interviews and they are very different and a lot more causal than the Behavioral Interview power days. Sometimes they are done after power days to slot you in to the right team. If you’ve already done the 2-3 BI plus a Case interview then this is a good sign. Have your interview stories clear in your head and just be casual but confident. Outside of the retail part of the bank a VP typically runs a big part of the org, so take it seriously.
I haven’t had any formal interviews. Just a chat with someone on the team who then said the VP will reach out. I assume it’s a good sign but still a little nervous so just wanted to see what to expect. Thanks for the advice!
Why not ask the data? Go to LinkedIn and look for VPs at capital one. add another filter: head of group, and see for yourself. remember the conversion rate: director at bank ("mgd") = sr. engineer in a high tier sv company
Head of a group does not always mean VP. I’ve seen directors and Sr managers hold that title when they are looking to fill a VP position. Generally you’re going to met with a variety of people so except a few casual chats before they get the ball rolling. We have EVP, MVP and VP in most departments. I am guessing you are going to product strategy or Business strategy?
I thot everyone is a VP or above in banks. Perhaps this VP is same as an MBA with 1 year paperwork experience?

VPs are very senior at capital one... multiple flavors of VP: VP, SVP, MVP, EVP. It’s not like at other banks where a VP is the equivalent of a director everywhere else.
