Tampa/ Miami with IT

Being a software engineer ( more on the management side now, like delivery manager) I enjoy my life in NYC, however I’m considering to move Florida. How’s the job market in Tampa or in Miami for example? Does anyone have any experience from that area? Based on the job postings I see that market might not that hot. Thanks in advance

I can’t speak for Miami but I’m located in Tampa. If you are moving from NYC, I would say you have about 20% of the opportunity here. I’m a project manager in IT and there are so few postings that I have to expand the search to other areas of Florida. I would say the startup culture (if that’s what you seek) is improving

Thank you, this was super useful! So we can say that it’s hard to find a job and it could take longer while you able to land on your next position?

Exactly. I happen to work for a company that allows me to be remote so living here is a no brainer.. but now that I’m ready to move on, I’m finding opportunities more difficult here. I highly doubt Miami has just as many opportunities as NYC and it has the same cost of living nearly. Just test the waters but I would make sure I really liked the company before moving here

How about the salaries? Is 80-110k scale good in Florida? What is the salary what you need to earn to have a convenient life ? If you work in remote ( in other state) where are you being taxed?

In Tampa, I’d say that scale is accurate. I’m still taxed in Florida (most of my projects are here) and I work from here. It can be different when I travel though. The no state income tax helps. I make 110k and live comfortably in Tampa. You won’t be able to afford South Tampa, but it’s definitely doable here. In Miami, I wouldn’t even consider moving there for a similar salary
