Tampering Manufactured date Food item

Bought frooti (a packed mango drink) from Indian store in USA and found that the manufactured and expiry dates are intentionally scratched out. Is it legally acceptable? What are the legal consequences to the store if proved?

Short answer. None. That’s why there is this term ”Best if used by” in America. Protects food industry from getting sued

I mean it’s prob hard to prove that and if you had said something they may have pulled the “oh sorry we didn’t see that, we can’t sell that to you” But if you really try hard you can find stuff. I worked at a fresh market that would use tuna fish that expired 10 days ago, scoop it out of the big expired tub into “snack packs” that have a shelf like of 5 days so people were buying 15 day EXPIRED tuna fish. When I brought this up to the manager she said I could stop making them, and I asked about the large amount we had on the floor and the ones pressure made, she said they were okay to be sold. If they opened an item for a customer to try, they re sealed it with a newer (later) expiration date. Ingredients and proportions didn’t matter we could replace things with similar substitutes and change ratios etc and were told to. We put fermented pomegranate seeds on salads they were 2 months expired. I worked there for about 3 weeks and quickly realized how terrible it was and quit.

Indian grocery stores have worse business practices which an American store wouldn’t even think of doing! I wish people could sue the hell out of them for such trade practices and make them pay for it! Include Indian restaurants as well while you’re at it!

That’s the reason every other desi dreams of opening restaurant and grocery store to make more money. Desh chhoddda but ganda dhanda karna choddda nahi....
