Happy Sunday everyone,
I am in MA and immediately after my graduation I started working remotely(for an on-site position)till this summer that company expects me to move to CA. Now my wife got an offer(her company is fine for a remote role)from an MA company but since we’ll eventually move to CA what would be her tax situation?

When you take an offer as remote role then all your taxes are based on the remote location so in your case it will be California

What if she asks for an on-site offer but then we move to CA and she works remotely?

Once she is a CA resident she will start paying CA taxes. I live in VA and work remotely for a Seattle-based firm so I pay VA taxes.

  • You pay taxes in the state of your primary residence. So if you live in CA 6 months and 1 day of the year, you pay CA taxes.
