I didn't get selected in my second H1B visa lottery. The chance of being selected is getting lower each year. I was told that I will need to relocate to Canada if I'm not been selected in my third H1B visa lottery. They don't allow day 1 CPT anymore. I get anxious and try to ask if I can start to apply GC even when I'm still F-1 Visa. I'm not from India or China, so the process should not be too long. I think I have great change to complete the process before my F-1 Visa expires. But I was told that's not the company's normal practice. If it's a normal practice instead of a "policy", there might have some exceptions? Does anyone have similar experiences or know how to bypass the normal process? I really don't want to relocate twice in two years. Thank you.

This is correct. OP, MSFT will do it for you. If you feel decent at LC, MSFT hiring events are happening. Search on linkedin and you will see for Atlanta, Austin and Dallas. Should be for Redmond too

Ask them to start your perm process or move to a company like Amazon. I'm on F1 and started my process in 2020

There is no uscis rule that disallows you to file for gc on student visa, if your employer is not doing go hire an attorney to do it
Yes you can sponsor your own attorney for gc unlike h1b

Atleast you have the Canada option so that’s good. I’m trying to do the same thing and my employer seems convinced. The only catch is that if your GC EAD doesn’t come by the time your STEM OPT EAD expires, you’ll have to stop working for a few months (assuming you already applied for I-1485 by then).
