How easy/difficult is to change teams @Microsoft if you get stuck in a team which you dont like workwise?
How it is looked upon? I have heard a manager came to know about an employee planning this and he threatened the employee to screw his Connect.

I know @Amazon it is not that difficult. You just have to clear couple of rounds (not so hard, sometimes not needed if you know the new manager) and it is not discouraged.

It is pretty hard, almost the same as external hiring. You need leetcode to pass the internal interviews.

    • Can confirm and the pay bump is almost non existent. If you’re gonna put in the time to grind to those ridiculous levels you may as well get a pay bump out of the deal.

  • I have done this before at MSFT. Here is how it went for me. Find a role at internal portal, email the HM with ir resume. They will conduct interviews offline and then u can officially apply if it goes well.

  • It is not that difficult if u have good performance. If your manager threatens retaliation, send a mail to HR. If you have good performance, your new manager will fight for you.

It’s not impossible but not easy. Managers still have a habit of posting jobs on the internal careers site with a hire in mind (sometimes in their network), which can be a waste of your time. There’s an internal DL for job openings that managers who are actually willing to source will also post to. It’s still a pretty competitive process but technically MS interviews are not as rigorous as those at FANG and it’s usually just half a loop (3 tech interviews, 1 behavioral informational). The HM also has access to your connect and review history.

sdejobs - if you’re a MS employee you can subscribe to it on idweb. Sometimes you can receive emails for hiring events, open houses and tech talks there - not just open JDs

In amazon you’re fucked, the moment you apply on internal portal. Your manager, HM and respective HRBPs will get mail about the application.
And if you’re not inline with your current manager then welcome to dev plan and leave amazon.
But if you have good network then it’s easy.

Yes thats true. I actually did an internal transfer and it was smooth for me. I didnt have to fight as i had good relationship with my current manager. However i also know many cases when people were put on dev plan just because they were seeking internal movement.
