Article says the cuts are “permanent” but does anyone in the Bay Area think this is part of long term strategies to shift jobs from Bay Area to other parts of the country?

I’m not in the bay area. The only reason for a business to setup there is for talent competition.

However, most companies could aggressively compete on the east coast for salary and quality of child-family life. Good housing prices, good schools.

1000 is nothing for all of tech in the whole bay area. That's a fraction of a percent of tech workers..
