Terrible dev plan & PIP culture in Amazon and FMLA.
The worst thing in Amazon is most of the managers are only threat to employee and company.
PIP comes after a dev plan. A dev plan is reasult of a dumb, jealous, technically unfit or a drunk manager.
Do not matter how good or bad you perform in dev-plan , managers have the permission to prepare manipulated scripts to either put u into PIP or bring you out from the devplan.
You can not apeal to anyone in case PIP document prepared by mangers is factually incorrect.
Managers always have some lap-dogs in the team to create problem for you during code reviews , who are encouraged & aprreciated to do so.
In sw industry 10 people can have 10 ideas, during ur devplan manager will appoint a dumb to keep on annoying you and make your work slow.
The PIP : Well 90% of cases PIP document are not complete, they will keep on changing requirement very frequently for no reason.
Your HR & Carrer ambassador during PIP are just stamp papers, if you face any issues.. they will just refer u to jury.
Nothing wrong in presenting your case to jury , but PIP condition itself will be so bad, that you will have to accept terms and conditions up front, so jury wont be able to do much for you.
Finally your L7, L8, L10, L11 are there with your manager. Apprx 30% people clears dev plans and apprx 3% clears PIP. Rest are all unlucky folks who are targated by dumbs & idiots.
If you dont have a visa to change company , its all badluckfor you. If you have working visa which allows you to change job, below is a small trick to by pass pain of PIP.
There are some good laws by Washington state to take FMLA leave. I would suggest if you are PIPPED , take fmla leave, search for a job, get PIP severence and quit Amazon.
Either you are in dev-plan or in PIP you are eligible to apply for short term disability via FMLA leave. Below is the procedure.
1)Goto inside.amazon.com, search for fmla.
2) Apply for fmla leave by looking at the link.
3) You will get a mail from fmla team to your personal mail id with attachment related to leave.
4) Take copy of 3 pages of that 29 page document by asking your relationship manager for fmla leave in Amazon... (He will be appointed post applying leave).
4) Goto a doctor (any registered Doctor is fine ), tell him u r in excess of stress bcaz of work pressure. Get the fmla document signed by doctor.
5) Submit the document to the link given by fmla team. You will get 2 weeks of time easily to get fmla form signed from doctor and upload. Where as leave will be alloted to you immediately from start date.
6) At one stretch you can ask for aprx 45 days of leave.
7) There is provision for 3 month fmla leave i.e. short term disability, with 60% salary covered by Amazon and by insurance.
6) Post you can apply for 3 months of long term disability. Most of the time Amazon deny payment during long term disability but you can atill avail leave i.e. leave without pay.
7) Stocks already vested will remain as it is. Rest of the stocka will be in hold state till u come back to work.
So you have 6 month to look for new job if you have visa.
Never tell your manager about your health issue and relationship manager for fmla.
FMLA team maintains confidentiality and your manager has no clue who is approving your leave . Manager will get an anonymous mail saying your leave is approved.
Dont accept PIP challenge untill and unless you are 100% confident and manager is supportive.
Take PIP severence , look for a job and leave the terrible & toxic place.
