We had shitty cars (2 of them) all our lives, never new ones. Now that I make tree fiddy (actually more like 375k), I want to buy a new car. I'm expecting my first child next year so I want to get a compact suv / crossover. At the same time, I have been in line for for Tesla 3 and I'm waiting for 35k model to come out (ineligible for California tax rebate). So now I'm thinking to whether buy a non-luxury Honda CR-V (~35k) for functionality and next year get the Tesla as well or keep one of my shitty cars and go for a full package best trim Q5 (~55k). Obviously the first option is more expensive but then I have 2 new cars. And if you are asking why I ended up choosing CR-V and Q5 as my options, I'd refer you to my YouTube history to see the sheer number of reviews I watched but other recommendations are welcome as well.
If you really need two cars, get two cars. Otherwise just get the Q5. For myself I'd get the Q5 first, then if I really need another car consider what to get at that point in time rather than getting two cars in the span of two years.
Makes total sense. But then I'll probably won't be able to afford Tesla if I decided to have 2 cars. So I will for sure end up not buying it.
I like Tesla model 3 and CRV option better. Would be more fun for you. That being said I like the Subaru outback better than the Honda CRV.
I agree about fun part. crv exterior looks boring to me and I wish it had the top surround view for parking but it's been number 1 compact suv in most rankings. I will check out the Subaru.
I have the model 3 and CRV. The fully loaded CRV is more than enough luxury for me. It has everything I wanted: leather seats, automatic cruise control, lane keeping, etc etc.
Actually, consider the Honda Passport if you don’t mind the lower MPG. The interior is very quiet. It makes for a more pleasant ride. If I had to choose from your three, I would get a fully-loaded CRV.
Get the SQ5! Like others mentioned, just buy used. A three year old Audi will have dropped the price between 20-30k.
Model 3 is an amazing car, once you drive it you will feel like why you wasted money on other cars before getting a Tesla.
I did a test drive... the Tesla guy didn't let me do much so it left a bad taste. But I'm sure it's nice. I love the simplicity of dashboard and tech. Needing to look to right at screen all the time even for speedometer instead of straight ahead was a bit distracting.
Sure, brag more
Think about cost of maintaining Tesla - it is nothing in comparison to gas cars. Save long term!
When my son was born, I went through the same research, and ended up buying a Subaru Outback.: best buck for the money hands down.. maintenance are super cheap and resell value is one of the best.. their all wheels drive is super smooth and their equipment is very competitive.. just don’t expect the same luxury details of Audi or Tesla Buying a car is usually an emotional choice, but it sounds you’re doing proper research, that’s why you should consider the Subaru Outback
I checked Outback. It seems that 2.5L engine model doesn't have comparable horsepower to CRV and the 3.6L ends up being more expensive than CRV. Features are more or less similar. What do you think?
You only need ~100 horsepower. Anything above is unnecessary for an Outback. It will get you anywhere you want to go. You can always get a fun car if you're into track days :-)
Audi
How old would you say?
Like 2-3 years old is perfect. A bunch of the depreciation is gone and the car is still basically new.
