Tesla Circle-jerking: Stop calling Teslas a “status symbol”
Who else is sick of all the Tesla circle jerking? A model 3 or even a model s is NOT a status symbol. You’re literally like every other tech corporate drone with one. I was just talking to some colleagues and they wouldn’t shut up about how amazing Tesla is and how primitive a combustion engine is. Lol, most luxury cars have the same features as a Tesla, and research has proven time and time again that it is NOT cheaper to own or maintain compared to a gas car of similar caliber. TC: 400k

When car X hits you while moving from A to B, the safer car standardized by vehicle rating company Y will help you in admitting to a hospital H near point C and not lie dead on the road. So, no car is just another car.

I hate the guts of a Tesla owner on the road. They drive terrible on the streets. Probably, that's the only place where they can prove a point.

Neither is it saving the environment. The impact to environment of producing an electric is enormous. Now Musk does not really like to talk about that does he.
It is not a status symbol. It's not amazing vs "primitive combustion engines". But it has pretty cool tech. I don't think most luxury cars have the same features.
Have literally never heard anyone refer to a tesla as a status symbol. Many owners drive one to commute so they dont drive their real status symbol.
Model S or X are definitely status symbols as much as an equivalently priced Porsche or a M4. Aren’t they also way faster?
A Porsche or M4 is way more rare. You see a model S everywhere these Days. Build quality is terrible compared to similarly priced cars as well. It’s faster off the line in some models but not for the long stretch.
I don’t think most people consider a Tesla as a status symbol especially in the Bay Area given how much people make here and buying a 50k car is nbd. People talk about it so much because they love the car and it’s a transformational product whether you want to accept it or not. It’s not like any other luxury car in any way, especially the tech which is what attracts most tech inclined people to buy the car in the first place. Also most people are not “car” people like you proclaim yourself to be but are rather tech people who see a cool car. I just think you feel bummed out that you’re not a part of the conversation and have resorted to name calling. Maybe it’s you that needs to step out of the bubble. I don’t know what research you’re talking about but owning an ev is definitely cheaper than owning an equivalent luxury car. I would know cause I own one and have saved atleast $1000 last year.
I’ll be interested to read this research, considering model 3s have been out for less than 2 years. Care to back up your claim OP? Just the link to the research, no anecdotal evidence please.
