I believe in the mission. If this helps bring Tesla to that mission I am happy to go.

The mission is for Musk to perpetuate fraud to fund his gulfstreams. Gullible idiot

Yep go Zzzxcz. Just switched teams a week ago and my new boss was like “We’re going to be out of a job soon. It’s okay!”

Out of curiosity, are any Tesla engineers really afraid that they will not land jobs at FAANG within a couple of months?
      Jan 22, 2019
    • Nop. People who jumped ship or got laid of last time are in really good companies now. I personally know people in FB,G,cruise,Uber. Lot of good people at Tesla who work for lesser pay because of the mission.

Obviously there are some bad apples.

  • Boom goes the dynamite. Sorry to the affected. I'd offer to refer you guys to Intel, but you might be insulted. And we are probably headed for mass layoffs soon too whenever we get a new CEO (probably end of the month). We have been undergoing many small stealth layoffs (no public announcement) for the past year.

It’s a bureaucratic mess. They’re not agile at all. The processes seem ancient. Getting anything done/fixed is a nightmare. Developer story is chaotic. (Work with QC if you want to see the developer engagement done right).

So many meetings (often between teams geographically spread across continents) to talk about what needs to be done but actual progress is slow. It feels like all the cost cutting measures over the years has taken its toll on overall quality. Most of the talent they hired over the last decade has been quite mediocre compared to QC or Nvidia.

Intel still has a lot of great potential and strategic businesses. They need someone to come in and kill the current toxic culture and move the company towards the next level. Something like what Satya Nadella did for MS (and MS has a long way to go too but the tides have turned).

    • Good perspective from an outsider. More or less matches my view from the inside. However, it'll be much harder to pivot as a HW company that is still reliant on multi-billion dollar fabs that aren't the technology leader in the industry anymore. All the cost cutting measures were put in place to maximize the spend and ROI on the fabs. And that ship has sailed. And Intel can't attract or doesn't know what to do with high end talent. So a lot of the talent has been jumping ship and accelerating their jumps in the past year.

I don’t when I will feel secure here. I mean I believe in the mission and all but I have visa issues, a loan to pay and a constant fear of being fired. Even if I get through this layoff, I’d be happy looking for an opportunity with some security even with less pay.

ynvc88 those on a visa have to go through a lot of hurdles to change jobs. All your stars have to align.
Even when they're willing and wanting to do so.

For the lay off in June, the severance conditions were pretty good (>2.5month pay + one quarter vesting), I wonder how it is this time?

It’s not a MS vs Tesla war. :)

We can definitely wait and watch If Musk will fall or not and take Tesla with him. Musk has multiple times lied in earnings call and on Twitter.

Also I am not at MS anymore.

Agree its not but the point is - its v easy to point finger and pull someone down (or at least try to) but its very rare to be visionary so respect.

@100thieves they fired your whole team and haven’t hired anyone to replace? Probably didn’t need the team at all then
      Jan 18, 2019
    • No we didn’t find anyone to replace because we had to hire a manger first. After he joined had a bunch of candidates, none passed the interview. Then the second round of lay offs happened

It will not exist. Even waymo admitted as such.

That won’t mean Elon musk will stop fraudulently accepting money for vaporware however

Elon Musk runs all of his companies the same, big hours, little pay, and no notice when your job is done. I absolutely would never work for any of his companies. He treats professional's as if they are un-skill labor.
