You idiots. No one mentions the battery! The battery is half the cost of the car. In 10 years the battery will be almost dead and the car will have 50 miles range. So unless there is a breakthrough in battery technology it’s a BMW for sure

    OP
Guys, I put in a deposit for a model 3 (as base as it gets on the website).... Hahaha. I couldn't justify the BMW when considering the potential repairs and gas/toll costs vs smiles per gallon it brings. Especially with the fact that I will primarily be stuck I'm bay area traffic ..

I’m a BMW fan but if you’re talking about resale value after 10 years then I’d pick the Tesla. Have a look at the prices of 2009/2008 E60 BMWs and see what they retailed for if you want an idea. You must also consider the yearly maintenance and other expensive parts you have to maintain.

I highly doubt that you’re gonna maintain a BMW for 10 years. Not only is it highly unlikely, you’d also get bored AND frustrated with all the maintenance work. But if you want to go with your heart, take the beemer. I’d suggest leasing one.
Edit: now someone’s gonna say “bs it’s definitely possible to maintain a BMW for 10 years.” to which my answer is : they owned previous generation models like E39 or E46 or E36 series which didn’t have a lot of unreliable electronics and complexities

Don’t forget all the plastic cooling system parts on the E36,46 and E39 that catastrophically fail! If the depreciation doesn’t kill your wallet, the maintenance cost will.

To the OP: Only buy a BMW with your heart and if you can do all the maintenance yourself and enjoy it
