Hello blinders, Need your help evaluating initial offer (via email) for Supplier Quality Engineer at Tesla Fremont CA. Base - 110k RSU- 70k/4 yrs Relocation - 5k Current TC- 83k ( michigan) YOE- 4+ years (automotive tier1 supplier ) Career progression- 3 promotions within 4 years of automotive career Education - MS in industrial engineering degree Interview rating- interviewed with 5 people (hiring manager + 4 panel) I would rate myself as 7.5/10. I feel I am getting low balled with initial offer. Need tips and suggestions for negotiation and offer evaluation. Thanks in advance.
What’s the level? Senior?
They have not mentioned seniority level. Position requirements is works ex of At least 3yrs. Historically they interviewed for SQE role and offered senior SQE role post salary negotiation.
Looks like a p2 salary. Ask for a senior level P3. Since you have 4 years of exp.
Too low, cost of living will eat the difference…. With your level of experience you should shoot for at least for 130-140. This is a terrible offer, so you know Tesla has an incredible deficit of engineers, lots and lots of open positions, so play your cards accordingly
This was helpful thank you. Do you think there is a possibility of TC $140 or + with such low initial offer ?
If you don’t ask you will never know, the worst it can happen is they say no and you will have to take a decision if you want to move ahead or not. Remember, you have leverage, use it.
Low balling, agree with Nerf75.
Low
70k/4 years meaning $17.5k per year in RSUs? Use units for Christ’s sake.
Lol or make the conversion. Most peeps on blind understand how RSUs work and their implications.
Some people get $70k per year and others get $70k over 4 years. Good to make the distinction.
Very low. You could possibly score a 100k in Michigan
Agreed..
Just so you know my friend tried to negotiate for the same role in the past 3 months ago and his offer got rescinded. So keep that in mind as well.
Damn. That sucks. I wonder what he/she said. I don't think it's common for an employer to just say no we aren't giving more than X amount.
Take this info with a grain of salt. People who negotiate 2x are turned down by Tesla
Very low. Rivian will pay you more but not sure about the RSU … they treat SQEs like janitors when it comes to RSU
Definitely low. At least shoot for 125k base and 150k RSU I.e total comp around 150k - 160k. Also the relocation is low . I heard it was 10k and now it’s 5k.
Tesla is synonymous to lowball. Sounds like a regular average offer for a 4 YoE at Tesla.
