Texas Instruments Offer Eval and Negotiation Help

Hey Blinders, I have an offer from TI and the numbers are bad (in my opinion). I wanted to ask for other people's opinions and some negotiation advice. I have given most of what can be relevant for the negotiation below. Base: 91k Joining: 11.5k (5k joining + 6.5k relocation) Variable profit sharing up to 20% of base Location: Dallas Role: Analog Design (return offer from Intern) Experience: 0 + 3 months intern (India) + 3 months intern (US) MS + BTech Negotiation material accrued so far: 1) I am currently waiting on a decision with Microsoft for Physical Design role in Raleigh, NC 2) I had received an offer from TI after my last internship with them in India (2018, and of course Indian inflation is at 7%). Numbers were like below in 2018 converted to USD price of today Base: 17k Joining: 5.8k (4.8k joining + 1k relocation) Variable profit sharing up to 20% of base Location: Bangalore Role: Analog Design (return offer from intern) #hardware #semiconductor #offer #negotiation #lowball #lowballed #texasinstruments #ti #dallas

You have almost no experience. Maybe you can leverage your MS offer. But that's a decent offer for that role.

Don't go physical design in MS. It pays nuts and the job itself is not interesting. Try apple and keep trying Apple after you get in TI.

TI raichu05 OP Oct 18, 2020

Hey, thanks for the heads up. I am trying with other companies like apple and nvidia. However, my long term plan in the industry is to switch fields to maybe software or atleast some branch of hardware which doesn't pay peanuts and yet gives the worst WLB. So for that, isn't microsoft better than TI?

Renesas Electronics rnsse Oct 19, 2020

Microsoft may pay slightly better.

NVIDIA i_is_here Oct 17, 2020

Don't waste you life in analog design

TI raichu05 OP Oct 18, 2020

Lol

Renesas Electronics rnsse Oct 19, 2020

Agreed.

TI’s standard offer for fresh PhDs is 105k in Dallas. So this initial offer doesn’t look so bad in comparison. Don’t hesitate to negotiate. TI is a sales company, they will value your negotiation skills more than your technical skills.

Renesas Electronics rnsse Oct 18, 2020

Still? 5 years ago they are offering this much and still this much 2020?

TI cacikcu Oct 18, 2020

Actually this was the offer 2-3 years ago. Maybe even lower now 🤣

What did you end up doing?

TI raichu05 OP Nov 3, 2020

Hey! Still waiting on other offers to see if I get anything better

TI TGTPM Nov 3, 2020

Well, it’s good that TI is giving you so much time to decide!
