Texas Instruments compensation in DFW

#interview #semiconductor #TI I am in the process of interviews with TI, so far all positive feedback. The hiring manager told me he could push things faster as he doesn't want to lose me to other companies and the rest of interviewing process is more like a formality. Question: how much TC is considered competitive in DFW, TX? YOE: 8-9yrs Title: Sr. Process Engineer Current TC: 160K in Austin, TX What would be the appropriate job grade and things negotiate in the offer? Base Profit sharing? Sign-on bonus? RSU? Relocation? (From Austin to Dallas)

NASA qKln23 Aug 2, 2021

I would shoot for 200k+ and anything less is an insult

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 2, 2021

Is compensation this high in TX already?

NASA qKln23 Aug 2, 2021

I'm at 145k as a new grad not at TI but point is HW needs to start paying better

NASA qKln23 Aug 2, 2021

I am based in Austin

Intel HtDJ11 Aug 9, 2021

What the final offer you got? I am in same boat. Till now I have a discussion with manager and team. When HR ll come into picture.

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 9, 2021

I have not discussed with the HR/recruiter yet. Just finished all interviews and waiting for next step.

NASA qKln23 Aug 9, 2021

GL hope you made it just always negotiate! We need to get these HW offers up!!

TI cacikcu Aug 13, 2021

Target at least 25% higher than your current TC.

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 25, 2021

Hmmm so 200K TC, wonder which part I can push the most? Base, RSU, or sign-on?

TI cacikcu Aug 25, 2021

First, make sure that you understand TI’s stock compensation part which is very different than other companies. TI offers 50% RSU and 50% options. RSU vesting schedule is terrible, 0/0/0/100%. You need to wait 4 years for RSUs to be vested. Options vest with 25/25/25/25% schedule but they may be worthless in the short term at this stock price. Basically stock compensation part of the TI’s offer is way riskier than other companies’ stock offers which usually consists of RSUs with 25% vesting schedule. So it’s very important to maximize your base, maybe target around $145-155k base.

I have 13 years of experience (9 in India and 4 years in USA). I expecting a offer by this week fair Dallas location. I have another offer in Bay Area. The offer is BP 175K , RSU 100K/4, Bonus 15%. 25 k joining bonus. Position is staff post SI validation. 1. Which grad should I expect? 2. What salary offer should I expect. What ll be the other component in the offer. Really interested in TI position because of WLB, job security and the work is also good. Please suggest.

Maxim Integrated sqOne Aug 25, 2021

200k should be possible. Grade 29 or 30 depending on your interview performance

TI cacikcu Aug 25, 2021

$150k base, 20% profit sharing (same for all employees, almost guaranteed), $20k sign-on, $80k RSU+options

Intel HtDJ11 Aug 26, 2021

Got the call from recruiter. They are working on numbers. Offering JG29. Should I try to fight for one higher grade or higher base compensation? What max base pay they can offer for JG29

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 26, 2021

I got called by hiring manager today telling me the written offer is coming in the next couple of days. I guess I should never accept the first one and negotiate whatever I can. Will be focus on base.

Intel HtDJ11 Aug 26, 2021

How is your offer? Could you please share the number?

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 27, 2021

My friends, just got the offer proposal. It's super lowball'ed. Don't even know how to start negotiation as I feel we are not in the same page. Speechless. Base: 118K Profit sharing: 20% Sign-on: 20K Relo: 15K RSU: 17.5K Option: 17.5K Effective TC ~159K (Base + profit sharing + sign-on/relo/equity over 4 yrs). 4-week gifted vacation at hire due to my plan of upcoming family trip.

Intel HtDJ11 Aug 27, 2021

True… it’s a low ball. Share your expectations with HR and manager. Do not join if it’s not meeting your acceptance criteria. What’s the JG offered?

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 27, 2021

Yes, I am going to talk to recruiter this afternoon. And I will focus on the base salary. I believe it's JG28, but will confirm with recruiter. The TC is lower than my current one, plus that benefits (insurance/HSA contribution/401K match/ESPP...etc) are either equal or worse than NXP. I certainly will NOT join with current offer, it simply makes no sense financially, as I'd have earned more if staying at NXP.

Intel HtDJ11 Aug 28, 2021

Hello everyone Need some details. Didn’t get the call with formal offer . Expecting to get it by Monday. Little bit disheartened after @VgPE16 low balled offer. Need following inputs 1. Criteria for offering JG at TI. Is it experience range ? Any advantage of fighting for high ting grade. What’s a major difference in terms of compensation in JG 29 and 30? 2. Can I ask for more RSUs on the basis of my intel’s unvested equity in addition of RSUs offered by the job offer I have. 3. Do you have a any snapshot of PERKS & Benefits at TI. 4. @VgPE16: my recruiter talked about gifted CMB action but that’s for only 40Hrs ( a week) + 2 days. How you get the 4 week off?

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 28, 2021

2. Yes, but I only have some of my unvested RSU compensated (~50%) 3. It's in the offer package, very standard (mediocre). 4% 401K match, 15% discount on 10% base ESPP, health plans are worse than NXP. But NXP is one of the best among companies I worked for. 4. I asked for it, mentioning family visit to my home country and all that quarantine crap. The starting PTO balance at hire will be 160hr.

NXP VgPE16 OP Aug 29, 2021

@HtDJ11 Though not optimistic, I do expect I'll have a few emails/phone calls with TI next week. From what I heard so far (some TI employees and friends in DFW area), it seems like TI's pay in DFW is not in line with industry. So my recruiter probably did not lie to me, my JG28 offer is actually "higher" than other JG28 in the company now. But, the point being, even that's the case, it doesn't mean I have to accept. From pure math, it makes no sense to accept an offer lower than I currently have. Unless I have strong motivation leaving my current position (which is not the case). Please share your formal offer numbers, Blind doesn't have much TI info, but we can start building the steam ;)

Guys , I have a question regarding performance bonus. Is it 0/1 kind of bonus? how it works? Hr told me people get 12K - 19K bonus annual on average . What’s your experience?

Maxim Integrated sqOne Sep 2, 2021

Depends on BU, but that’s in the ballpark..

Maxim Integrated sqOne Sep 2, 2021

Some BUs don’t even give this. This is performance based bonus. In addition to this you also get 20% blanket profit sharing for everyone irrespective of performance

NXP VgPE16 OP Sep 4, 2021

@HtDJ11 Have you received any updates on your offer? Did you try to follow up or push it? Things are moving pretty slowly for me. Thinking of pushing it, but don't want to being hurry and losing ground in the negotiation.

Intel HtDJ11 Sep 6, 2021

Got the final numbers and the offer letter BP: 145K Joining: 25K Relo:25K RSU+ Options: 75K Performance Bonus: avg 12k Annual equity: 19K I shared the same earlier. Final date of acceptance is 9th SEP. Please share your numbers as as possible. Still want to know if there are any scope of improvement in numbers. Is it possible to change the numbers after generating the formal offer? Is it possible to postpone the offer accept date?

NXP VgPE16 OP Sep 6, 2021

I shared mine last time and it was on the offer letter. I don't know if it's possible to change after formal offer letter, but I countered back my expectations. JG28 Base: 118K Profit sharing: 20% Sign-on: 20K Relo:15K RSU+ Options: 35K
