Never lived in Austin/Seattle but been in Dallas for over a year now.
Everything is spread out so getting a car is necessary. The past summer was absolutely brutal. Like for several weeks (if not months) in a row, it never went below the 90s. There’s frequent hailstorms and the storms in general are Texas-sized. We actually had a few tornados a couple of months ago and they did real damage. One almost hit my place (I saw the tornado path and it was a few hundred feet away).
If you’d like to buy a house, everyone’s getting in on the buying action (especially in the suburbs of McKinney and Allen). If you need more info, lmk.
I hated Seattle. It doesn’t get that hot in Austin or Dallas, just go out at 7AM if you plan to walk or run in July and August (like i do). People are a lot nicer and welcoming. Easy to make friends. Cheaper cost of living so you’ll have money to travel and join activities/go to concerts. Houses are bigger and cheaper with a nice backyard. There is a decent amount of tech in Austin.
I just bought a 3100 sqft house with a big backyard in a great school district (no kids yet but planning on it) for 500k in Austin.
I wfh but my husband works for Nvidia. His commute is 3 minutes. We live in the Avery Ranch area so it’s about 10 minutes north of the Apple campus and Domain area. About 30 minutes to downtown and 35 to the airport. We love it!
