So I was recommended to come back in 6 months and reinterview at a higher level 😭😭😭

      Was probably looped for L4 to begin with and got down-leveled by the committee (2 YoE is a hard sell for mid-level, especially coming from outside a big tech company or unicorn startup, and going into an generally conservative shop like Google).

      Recruiters aren't going to feed people into the system if there's zero chance they'll actually get placed.

    • Higher level means L4, and then you would be having 2.5 years of experience and L4 will be a stretch right. Seriously don’t get the logic behind this. πŸ˜‘

      I feel like his recruiter lied to him when they said he passed L3 bar. It just doesn't make sense if he has to wait 6 mo to reinterview. I thought normally they would just ask for extra interviews if they thought he should be L4 instead.

      I have 5 YOE, was interviewed for L4, passed HC at L3 and then froze before team matching process because of no headcount πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ I honestly think L3/L4 is arbitrary, there's no guarantee you'd get L4 in 6 months even if you ace the interview.

    Here's the good news: your offer is good for a year, and Google has dedicated recruiters who specifically target and work with candidates who previously received/turned down offers (I know this because I have one). L3 headcount should open up a bit in the late summer or early before the university recruiting season kicks into full gear, and/or you'll probably be able to skip the phone screen next time.
