The hard drives, which were unencrypted, included payroll data like employee names, bank account numbers and the last four digits of employees’ social security numbers, according to an email Facebook shared with staff Friday morning. The drives also included compensation information, including salaries, bonus amounts, and some equity details. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-12-13/thief-stole-payroll-data-for-thousands-of-facebook-employees
From the article: The employee who was robbed is a member of Facebook’s payroll department, and wasn’t supposed to have taken the hard drives outside the office. “We have taken appropriate disciplinary action,” the spokeswoman said. “We won’t be discussing individual personnel details.” Expect to see post from Facebook user on blind asking for job hunting help 😂
Yo so will they post actual salary info lol
Why steal..just ask on blind..ppl love to flaunt their TC
Time to change bank account number. Can’t escape the damage from the rest of the data, unfortunately. One can only hope this wasn’t malicious on the employees side... they could have gotten millions to “lose” the drives.
Why would you need to change bank account numbers?
Someone now has 95-100% of the info required to social engineer many of my services/etc. They also have enough info to forge a check. They could also successfully phish some people with the info.
Did Facebook make and maintain their own payroll software?
I applaud facebook’s commitment to transparency. Mark knew he’d get pushback from the board and other C-suite execs at releasing this info. So the absolute madlad just put it all on an unencrypted drive and got it “stolen.” A+++
