What’s the advantage of going through a third-party recruiting agency? Why not just apply directly on the website? Isn’t there an inherent disadvantage because now they have to pay the recruiter too, lowering the amount they might be able to pay you?
Recruiters are usually slimy
I've had nothing but bad experience with them. Flaking on phone calls, ghosting after phone calls, low balling on offers, trying to sell on you on undesirable positions or companies. I'm done with them.
They are leeches paid off your talent but dont call back if you dont get an offer
Are you more likely to get an interview? At a hedge fund?
Lol probably not. They say they have ins but don't.
Agency recruiters are actually incentivized to get you a better offer as their commission is based on your starting salary. Companies have separate budgets allocated for recruiting costs so it’s not coming out of your end. I manage a recruiting firm and the data suggests that we average about an 8% increase over what our candidates would get on their own. Additionally, we have relationships with key decision makers at our clients. So rather than your resume sitting in some ATS with no context, we can advocate for your candidacy and get you directly in front of the hiring manager. We also have insight and prep we can provide you throughout the interview process. So rather than navigating the interview process on your own, you can leverage all the information we have about what to expect and prepare for at each stage.
Seems legit.

None. Plus most of them lie to you and spam your resume after editing them.
