Those whose H1Bs were not picked in time (usually 3 years of OPT), what did you do?

Three years on OPT, this was my final try and I did not get picked for H1B. Worst case if there's no second lottery like last year (seems highly unlikely), what are my options if I wish to continue working for my company/in the US? Do I have to temporarily move to Canada till the time it's picked and my status is transitioned to H1? Until I complete that one year in Canada, can my employer apply for L1 so I most definitely come back to the US?

What did *you* do? What are my options? My current employer (not intu) doesn't have a tech team in Canada but does have some presence in Canada (corporate I guess).

If you move back to India, you will struggle for 2 months, get a high paying job, get used to it and live happily.

If you decide to take some loophole to stay in US or move to Canada and come back on L1, your struggles will never end.

I know it might suck to hear this but trust me, going back to India is absolutely nothing wrong considering the fuckin high salaries people are getting there.

k then sure come to US and enjoy the H1B life (if at all you even get the lottery). If those problems in India are taking your peace away, you will be the same miserable person no matter where you go. Its more about your attitude and expectations than about the country.

  • I had only one year of OPT during which H1B was not picked ; I went back to India and was ok with it but one year later my co bought me back - I would have been okay otherwise too. My advise would be to not sweat trying too hard / don’t search for legal loopholes - it’s ok either ways. Life is good in India too - Salaries have increased significantly and u get to stay closer to family. Embrace where life takes you !

I worked for a week with PT time from India. Not great, but honestly quite okay. Sleeping at 3-4am worst case, and people are generally accommodating. Even better with no meeting days
