I’m an engineer with mostly front-end + mobile experience but I’d like to look into roles that do more backend work. I have experience setting up AWS systems, wondering if getting an AWS certificate is something that would help recruiters and employers see me as someone more backend capable? Thanks in advance.

  • Certificates are worthless.

I have 6 of them. The only thing they were good for was a guided learning path.

  • Certifications like the AWS for the role matter IMO but only to get your resume noticed. If you aren’t practicing the patterns and strategies and also diving into dev ops work then you might struggle with if you get asked technical questions during interviews.

  • Certifications from Aws, Azure and Kubernetes do matter. Managers in interviews have mentioned about them and look at them. Someone has tested you on the basics, so they don't have to in their basic interviews.
