Thoughts on Denver?

Mid-level UI designer with a strong visual skill set hungry for mountains, snow, and solid employment options. Anybody work in the area and can share some insight/what they love/what they don’t love? Do companies generally have competitive offerings in the area? Salary ballparks would be nice too.

Where are you coming from? I came here from the Midwest and love it. My prospects as an engineer and good, currently making 100k with 5 years experience.

Lots of tech jobs out here currently. The cost of living is on the rise. Expect to pay 350k for a house bare minimum, much higher in Denver and Boulder. Obviously sticker shock varies depending on where you are coming from. The weather is amazing and the traffic is steadily getting worse.

Nice people here in Denver. No trees but you get used to that.

Denver has more and more tech options, but if you’re snow hungry, the traffic to the ski mountains is horrific. 3-4 hours in many instances, both there and back. Plus long lift lines. I’m an obsessive skier, go every weekend, and have enjoyed the options in Seattle. 1hr to Alpental and Snoqualmie (Alpental has awesome double-black terrain, but powder days have nightmarish lift lines), 2hrs to Crystal which is awesome and varied, 5hrs to Whistler (best place on the planet), 1.5hrs to Stevens (traffic back is rough though, 2.5-3hrs), 3hrs to Baker. Or consider Salt Lake City. Tons of tech options, and arguably the best snow in the country. Way cheaper too. Big overall outdoors destination.
