I am considering an offer from Thumbtack as a Software Engineer. What do people think of it's potential in the future? They seem to have a strong engineering team. I also have an offer from Amazon but am not as interested in working at a huge company.
My experience as a homeowner with Porch, thumbtack, homeadviser, etc has not been good. Most of these blue collar tradesman types are set in their ways and don't want to use these services. Usually it just ends with me getting spam calls from some off shore call center and I hang up and find someone good on Angie's list. I would take the amazon offer or else find a start up that's actually making a useful product.
If the team is great and the pay is 15% more, stick with thumbtack and leave before it crashes. Otherwise, go big company.
Crash and burn soon. Stay where you're at.
Nextdoor > Thumbtack
Thumbtack and Nextdoor aren't even in the same market...
For now. You have been warned.
Hey I can say we're doing pretty healthy as a business and are generating revenue. It's easy to judge from the outside but it's a different and better story inside. If you have any questions about the health or integrity of the company we can arrange meetings with executives to get your questions answered.
Another Thumbtacker here. The culture and perks are great The company is shooting for a gigantic market which is not exactly winner takes all, so it has great chances of doing very well. As my coworker said, you can request to talk to anyone in the company, but feel free to AMA (publicly or via DM)
Will the company IPO soon and is the end even in sight?
Itβs a definitely still a start up in its early stages of product development and some uncertainty, but the culture, ppl, benefits is great. Comp can be also competitive with almost any other company
I tried using it for some electrical work. Everyone seems to spam you with the same message. Rates were really high. Not sure if they'll ever become "the" place to go to, vs friends referrals and yelp or Angie's list
