I've been at my current job for about ten months now. The main reason I joined was I really liked the head of design/product and felt I could learn a lot by working under him. All the other offers I had were for smaller startups where I would be the only designer and only have to answer to the CEO/cofounders. I decided that I should swallow my pride and deal with some bureaucracy because this head of design would help my career in the long run. Unfortunately within a few months he switched over to solely leading product until they would hire a full time head of product and he would switch back to leading design. They said they would hire a head of product by the end of last year which never happened. I was placed under another designer who is a terrible manager and not that good of a designer. I asked the CEO to put me under someone else, which he initially agreed to but then backtracked a few days later and said I would stay under this other designer, but they would make sure to check in on me and provide support when needed. My thinking on this is I should just leave and go to a smaller company where I'd have more freedom like I was initially planning. The market is still going strong, and it's pretty easy to find a new job. Easier in my opinion, than sticking around and dealing with a not ideal situation. My question is, am I being too much of a diva, and should I just suck it up, or should I stick to my guns and move on?
RUN before you're trapped
I was reached out by lime recruiting for a design position. Now I’m hesitant to continue.. Anyway, best of luck to you. You may have more freedom if you go somewhere else. Teams change and people move on to another area. List out the pros and cons before you make a decision. When you wake up, are you excited to go to work? P.s, TC or gtfo!
