Thoughts on offers: Guidewire and Red Hat

I have a couple of offers right now. Trying to figure out if I should take one, keep working LC, or use the offers to get more coin (and better work) from Leidos. YOE: 21 Current TC: 180K (all salary) RedHat: Base: 160K Yearly bonus: 15% RSU: 20K over 3 years Sign on: 15K Retention after year 1: 15K Guidewire: Base: 165K Yearly bonus: 15% RSU: 160 over 4 Lots of talk about yearly refreshers It is clear that the Guidewire offer is stronger. I’m just curious what I’m getting myself into if I leave my very stable but frustrating job for that. I don’t want to go somewhere that falls flat in a year or so. I’m also waiting to hear back from Microsoft. Guidewire and Red Hat fully remote. Location WV Any feedback, especially on Guidewire is appreciated

21. My fault, I know the rules and updated the post accordingly

No worries. Was genuinely curious. My vote is for Guidewire. This is probably team specific, but I’ve a few friends who work their and have heard nothing but praise from them. It’s the small perks like WFH equipment allowance, weekly meal stipend, etc that shows how much they care about their employees.

What team or product in Red Hat ? Also Red Hat offering RSUs as a joke compared to industry. I hope they fix that.

Leidos mx4by23 OP Dec 21, 2021

Yeah they are a little light there Advanced Cluster Security

The team and product might be interesting to work with…. Specially if you come from company where you mentioned to be frustrated, you will very likely enjoy Red Hat people and culture. And company is stable .

Guidewire RSU refresher is very good in Bay area. I didn’t know we had fully remote positions. Stable & growing company. Lots of perks, great culture, genuinely caring company, modern cloud tech stack. Majority of the engineering teams are good. Some groups are exceptionally good. Check blind threads about Guidewire. Which team is it?

Leidos mx4by23 OP Dec 24, 2021

Data Platform team

Guidewire springb Dec 24, 2021

That’s a great team. Blind has lots of threads about CDP.

Guidewire engmonkey Dec 24, 2021

Data Platform is highly regarded for tech stack and leadership. I’m surprised they are hiring fully remote. My teammate who wanted a fully remote role tried an internal transfer to CDP. If I heard correctly they didn’t entertain fully remote idea then. It was 5-6 months ago. Pandemic may have changed things. Did you check other blind discussions about Guidewire, specifically about that team? Any specific questions?

Leidos mx4by23 OP Dec 25, 2021

Yeah I when we first started taking they wanted me to work pacific time but then had an opening East coast based. I will certainly search blind for that team. I appreciate the response

ACM development is more likely you're diving into SRE space. Latest tech stuff, but make sure you feel satisfied with 160k. I'm in a disappointing situation where I just accepted their initial offer. Now I realize my skills are more valued in the market right now. Currently looking for other opportunities out there.

What was TC offered by rh and yoe you have ?

Leidos mx4by23 OP Jan 4, 2022

Yeah that is a concern. I think I’ve ruled them out because of that and where it looked old like comp will go. So I can keep leetcode and maybe using some upskilling at Leidos or go to Guidewire.

Guidewire has been great for me. While your bonus may change just slightly if you perform really well, they’ll throw in some solid RSU refreshers out there. Culture is great. The ppl are awesome and willing to help you progress in your career.
