I’ve been interviewing at Zillow and the list time I spoke to a recruiter I told them my salary range was 100-110k (originally i asked for 85-100k). I had seen Glassdoor and levels but making that much money seems weird to me.

I just finished my last interview and I’m feeling like I might get an offer. I feel like I could have asked for way more after reading blind. Did I just screw myself?

Edit: TC 65K 2.5 years of experience

Idk if I’ll get the offer for sure, but if I don’t, how do I better gauge salary bands for different companies? It feels so weird to ask for over double my current salary.

This isn’t software engineering is it? If so that is definitely low…

Yes… it’s a swe position. My current TC is 65K. I only get a base salary. Every few months I might get a $10 gift certificate, but they count that as taxable income so it’s really less than $10. I didn’t know I was capable of marking over 100K in a MCOL area at my age

Welcome to Blind. You can pretty easily make 180k to over 200k if you put your mind to it and apply to the right companies.

They'll probably offer you a lower end of the pay band for the level but that doesn't mean you still can't negotiate.

@SAS I only use Glassdoor if there isn't any Blind data and try to estimate how much it's off by looking at other comparable companies on both Glassdoor and Blind.

  • They'll just give you bottom of the band which will still be more than you asked for and much more you're currently making. In the future, you can ask the recruiter for a comp range for the job instead of giving a number.

  • When offering, they'll ask your expectations again. Give them a number you like this time.
