Hi Blinders, It’s been a month in my job search and so far nothing turned out. It’s frustrating and nerve-wracking. I got to get something going before May 31 inside Intel or else GTFO and be on 60 day grace period in H1B. Here are my interviews with the companies. 1.Facebook - coding round 1 problem solved, second one time out. (Time : 45 mins ) 2.Amazon - Coding Problem solved but rejected and didn’t get feedback (Time: 50 mins ) 3.Apple (2 coding problem solved waiting on results-2 hrs) 4. Nuro (Medium level LC but I solved it, but the guy wanted a different solution) 40 mins 5. Apple - AI specialist 1 hr interview on NNs and the lady was super rude and wasn’t amicable when she spoke) So going forward, I want to ask fellow blinders on how they managed to get job offers quickly. I m solving LC everyday but I believe it’s not 100% sure they will ask you from those questions. So far I got only 2 problems from LC others were all something different. It’s expected u think but for how long I got to do this. Somebody guide me plz. Not able to sleep or eat properly. Because of this Intel inside merger, my EB1B filing is also on stall. Fragomen told me they will start that once I m on a payroll. #engineering #software #jobhunt #leetcode
What is Fragomen? Get a job in a start up for short term.
It’s the legal attorney that Intel and other companies affiliate towards your immigration paperwork
Did u receive feedback from the Hiring Manager? You might wanna do that. They often only give you feedback when u push a little bit for it. Should give u some better insights into why these interviews didn't lead to success.
No I haven’t written back yet but will do today 👍🏼
Great, but do it in a kind way ;)
There's nothing fast about a job search, unfortunately. Takes a while to schedule screens, then live interviews, then maybe a month to properly negotiate. You can probably accelerate at the expense of having enough time to prep or being able to batch interviews so you can get offers at the same time, or improving the parameters of your offer. About prep - sounds like you're focusing on memorizing LC, which is the wrong way to go about it. You need to understand the ideas behind algorithms and theory (e.g. graphs) and how to apply them. Also study on problem-solving. Cracking the Coding Interview might help with the latter, but think of LC as practice on problem-solving, not something to memorize. During the interview, focus on properly scoping the problem, verifying assumptions, and properly analyzing the problem and coming up with a good algorithm before coding. If you don't do that, you can quickly write a correct solution and still get rejected because of your approach. Needles to say, good code quality (readability, code structure, etc.) is also important, which is something LC won't tell you about. The way you conduct yourself also matters, e.g. being respectful and being socially and emotionally aware. Your comment about "the lady" is a red flag to me and it's possible that you were giving off sexist vibes or being disrespectful during the interview due to her gender without even realizing it, so it's worth checking yourself in that area.
Ok I understand this is a long process but no fruition so far. I am doing the accelerated version where I have batch interviews scheduled every week. Honestly I just have time to solve some LC and then prepare myself. I do not memorize stuff and yes I do hav CTCI book and read about problem solving. I revisit those DSA concepts revising them every time I go before an interview. And no offense I do know how to conduct myself and being respectful of others. I don’t give a sexist vibe in fact “the lady” asked me a question in DNN and wasn’t sure and asked her to repeat the question again and she got pissed off. I was only asking for an explanation. She said you didn’t pay attention in the first time ??? Even throughout the interview, she was in a hurry and she want to finish it ASAP. See I’m a candidate and I’m trying to answer her but she doesn’t hav the patience to do this interview session, she shouldn’t have taken this responsibility!!
From the way you’re talking here, looks like you need to give more interviews and what Facebook said above in the last paragraph sounds so true. You need to stay on ground. Good luck with your search. I know it’s exhausting, I’ve just been through that
Look for something within Intel first. And then apply externally. I don't think job hunting with a 2 month deadline is going to be very useful for a swe role (since it seems like you are still in the LC prep phase)
Do things in this priority: 1. Lookout for a job in Intel, it's the easiest way. 2. Be open to relocating nationally. 3. Apply to startups as their turnaround time is usually fast. 4. Reach to consulting firms.
N dont lose hope. Last thing you want is to get disheartened n not give it your best shot. Keep at it dear friend!
Don’t just apply to Top Tier companies. Since the need of the hour is to get a job, I would recommend applying to all the companies which will provide sponsorship. Also, you may stumble upon a really great company/team. Good Luck! Also, DM for Expedia referral.
