Time it took to negotiate pay

For those that had done pay negotiations after an onsite, how long did it take for you to get the target you want? I’m in talks with a co that’s trying to put together an attractive offer. They’ve taken 4days already and still no news so far. I have another offer that I’m trying to stall so I’m curious to see how long it’s taken for others when negotiating pay

If you have another offer with a deadline you should be able to drive the timeline. Tell them your deadline and if they haven't gotten back to you by then you'll have to take the competing offer.

Yeah, they just came back to say they can’t match at all and ultimately can’t afford me. This will be another rant. Wasted all my time going through the process and can’t even give me their best and final, even if they can’t match competing offer

that's odd

Took one 15 minute phone call with Amazon. They started with a decent offer and then after talking with the recruiter they quickly raised it 15% to what I was looking for. As soon as he knew I had done my research, he gave a solid offer.

That’s great! Ideally, that’s how it should all work. I gave this recruiter pay comps and a competing offer to see what they can come up with. Ended up saying they actually can’t afford me (even at market rate). Such a waste of time!

They actually never even asked for my current salary, which I appreciated. They asked what my desired salary was early on, to which I replied that I was familiar with their salary bands and the range was within my expectations. They were perfectly fine with that. Later when they gave an offer, I said that it was a solid mid to upper L5 and that I felt with my experience I would quickly take on the responsibility of an L6 and wanted my compensation to reflect that. They responded with an offer near the top of the L5 band. It definitely felt generous, fair and they were open and forthcoming with the conversation. I was certainly impressed with the process, it was much better than I expected.
