Tinder data scientists probably work very hard to maximize number of swipes before you get laid
Sort of, I presume. But what kind of models they use would be really interesting to know more about
@huk got it right. I'd imagine they want to maximize overall revenue like most freemium B2C apps: - Maximize (# paying users)x(price)x(time) - Maximize ads revenue from free users (using precise targeting, engagement time , openness to click ads and eventually ad price) - Avoid mistakes that will bring bad PR / horrible UX (resulting in massive retention) Once you know the constraints and metrics, useful ideas could be: - Ranking users by overall attractiveness - Personalization for specific taste - Extracting labels for profiles (you see people whose university is mentioned on the Facebook account labeled as "scholars", despite graduating years ago) - Product experiments, e.g. showing the most attractive first? Showing a red sonar for 5 seconds at the beginning to exploit psychological expectation mechanism and hook the user? - Which notifications to show and when? Probably an experiments oriented work environment + hardcore engineering for some.
