Can the folks who have recently interviewed with Amazon comment if they were asked any questions in the areas of design patterns, object oriented design? I have knowledge about some basic design patterns and implemented some like factory method, singleton, etc at my work but given a problem, I can't recognize which one to go for. I get a feeling from the glassdoor experiences that this area needs to be well prepared too. Would really appreciate your help with some pointers regarding how to prep for this or some good resources. Got a week to prepare.
Forget all that. All you need to care about is LP. I found the focus on that a bit ridiculous to be honest. Not to mention 3 of my interviewers asked those questions like how a robot would.
Do you mind sharing the LP questions?
I remember thinking the same from the outside, but Amazon's culture really is centered around the LP and it will hurt your career if you don't follow them. That's why they focus so heavily in the interview. Better to decline someone who technically meets the bar but doesn't fit in than let them in and have them be miserable and bithcing about it on blind after a few months in the company.
Create stories, all amazon is bs
there were no algo or design questions?
When I interviewed there two rounds of coding . One round of oops design and coding the same and one design. All 4 rounds had questions regarding leadership principal. Spend time reading them and associating past experience with those principles. All the best
Any reading material? Was this for SDE2?
Agreed, Green book is enough for Amazon technicals. Focus is really on leadership principles.
Unlikely you will get those in depth. Expect leetcode mediumish DS/Algo and a HEAVY focus on the LPs in each round. There is a design round but its system level design, you could name drop a pattern there if you wanted to try and sound cool but it’s not the focus.
