Got my first direct report. Great employee. How can I be a great manager? I've been lucky to have a few great ones myself over the years. Was able to get them a huge raise so that's a good start I think, but more asking about helping their career and weekly tips for work management. YOE 5 TC: 350k #finance #fpa
Good on your for asking this. No two people are the same, so ask what style of communication works for them. Some people want more hands on and others do not. Ask what goals they have for 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, 4 years, 5 years and see how you can support them. If they're goal is to not be in your team or group, support that. Aside from that, just care.
How’d you land that TC with only 5 years of experience? Aside from that, try to establish a personal relationship and be interested in their interests outside of work.
Hi, How were you able to get 350k at 5 years? are you a finance manager or SFA with an employee below you? and how long you have been there, if you don't mind asking.
how did you get a report in the first place? did you convince your boss to give you a headcount? how did you do it?
Joined as a manager, the workload was nuts, company growing in triple digits, so yeah they asked if I need someone and I said yes.
oh, are you not at google?

Congrats on a new direct report. Could you breakdown you TC? I am wondering what is the level of base and stock comp that people expect in start ups. Man 350for 5 years is amazing.
165 base, rest is equity
You sound like someone I'd want to work for. Are you hiring? :)

Don't micromanage.
Yeah tough to strike this balance. Been trying to do a few things: - assigning projects / tasks and getting weekly updates on them. But don't interfere unless they need help - ask them what projects they think would be value add to the company and interest them
