I recently joined a FAANG (aah.... you got me.. amazon). At the time, it felt like a big jump in TC from my last company BUT after joining.. well... not really enjoying the work. My team is great, my onboarding buddy is awesome but I am not "feeling" the work so continued to interview. TLDR: hired as L5... have offers from other companies at much higher level (L6 - L8 from Pinterest, AirBnB, Tinder, Spotify etc) What would be a good way to resign. I am fine with my manager. My manager actually adores my skillset. But then.. I feel like a cog in a big machine. plus TC is .. It was a jump but I guess I can do better. Current TC: 345k YOE: 8 years Future TC: 400k - 580k (depending on which offer I select) TLDR: I just feel bad how to break news :( #offer
Quit being a baby and just tell him you are taking a better job.
Be honest with your manager. Say you found your "dream job" at another company. Nobody will fault you for that. If thry do, they can suck on a lemon 🍋

Put amazon on dev plan and give unrealistic goals to prove themselves worthy of you
How are you making 345 as L5?
This. Top of band is 250, so something fishy going on or he got some crazy RSUs and he's been here for a few years
If anyone told you $250 is top of band for L5, they lied to you. There are many $310k L5 offers here on blind.
Are you high, which company gave you a L8 offer?
got principal offer from airbnb. I did confirmed with recruiter about level. TC is pretty much double what I make but ...eh.. AirBnB... atm.. But.. pretty sure.. wanna leave amazon. I have not changed jobs in span of 4 months. So.. its new waters for me.
That's L6.
Some companies have inflated levels or many levels. MTS1( next after SE3) at PayPal is equivalent to L5 at Amazon. So don't go by the levels.
This is a business transaction, don’t make it emotional. No one did any favor to you when they hired you. If you don’t like it, be honest about it and quit. You will be better off, and so will Amazon by not having an unhappy employee. Amazon won’t think so much when it comes to laying you off.
If you are at Amazon you should know that no one really cares that much if you come or go. I just joined and it’s not a big deal to anyone. People come and go in big companies. Don’t overthink it, just hand in your notice and say: “I quit” At this point ur probably doing on boarding stuff so nothing really changed for them, no knowledge transfer etc.
Break it to your manager quickly. Let it soak in for him and give him the two weeks or three if you are busy doing stuff so he can adjust the headcount. Don't take it personally. If you liked your manager and had a good bond, don't burn bridges - a lot of hate from people with bad managers here or just trolls. Do the due procedure and don't screw up your team or him. Who knows maybe long into the future your boss may be your boss again or have some impact again on your work-life....
good advice. I like my manager and my onboarding buddy. At the moment, I am just not feeling the vibe. I honestly feel that as an L5, I am under levelled and other companies are valuing me more.
That's fair - you have 8 yoe. It's more of a surprise that you are not L6. Well technically you have an L6 TC, but hey TC isn't everything if you get vibes that you don't wanna be there - totally valid to leave.
