I have been with Amazon for 3 Yrs. and moved across 3 teams. I wanted to share few things which I found can help new joiners (who joined even knowing the harsh Amazon culture :)) to survive at Amazon. You will find two kinds of employees here - 1) One who have been here for long and have understood how things work at Amazon. Many people don't want to get promoted (you will find them at L5 or L6 for many years) as they know what it takes out of you to get promoted. I am not blaming them for this, Its the fear of the expectation and work load from the new role. As already they have gone through turmoil of working long hours ( which means may 15+ hours a day), leaving behind personal life, backstabbing, saying "Yes" to managers even you disagree just to get a good forte feedback. They already have good amount of stock and money saved from the appreciated share value. So those one would find some stable project (till the time ) going for years and supporting them. So they will stick to some project management kind of role. 2) Others are who want to get promoted quickly and get good hike. They are workaholic, love to work long hours, play politics, work hard, sacrifice their personal life, behave like bot machine, making all attempt to be in good books of manager. This vicious cycle will be there for ever at Amazon, thanks to Day 1 concept (Hahaha). Choose wisely what you want to achieve, look for teams based on your priority. #amazon
