I have been on the same team since I've joined (~1yr) and basically in the same functional role/level. In this time I have moved quickly from contractor, to FTE, and now hold a "lead" title (no comp change). The actual work performed has basically remained constant, and I wouldn't necessarily describe each stage differently. What I wonder is, would it be better for my career profile (LinkedIn) to list the most senior role given with total accumulated time in the org, or list three separate titles in the same organization with shorter durations listed (connoting the rapid growth)? Recruiter insights welcome. IC5 $235TC 14YOE
It’s always best to be honest and open. Showing growth in a company is always a positive though. The time that it could hinder is if you’ve only been in the more senior role for a short time and the role you’re applying/getting recruited for requires experience in senior roles.
Contractor to FTE some people have very strong opinions about. Lots of stories of someone annoyingly proper up the chain glancing at LinkedIn profile and stopping everything in its tracks for dumb stuff like this. Think it's better to play it safe. Doesn't reflect on companies or teams though, usually just random chance crusaders somewhere in vertical which have a chance to pop up everywhere
LinkedIn fixed the multiple experience at same company as different length of time. Now if you do that it'll display a total years at company and below it all the titles with their respective time frames. Prefer stating all roles as well. People are iffy about candidates trying to pass off as being full time for full length if they were contractors even part of that time, as well as if you try to pass off being in the most senior position the full time and interviewers back channel.
Just put a true information, otherwise I will forgot about this during interview))))
Good recruiters can do the math of YOE and the career progression (fast) it took for you to become a lead. No need to waste space breaking it down as frankly nobody cares what a lead did when they were an IC1. That said if they specifically ask you in interviews about your career history don’t lie.
