I worked at Google and let me tell you why I love FB:
1) Move Fast - No red tapes, beauracracy. I worked at Google and people would argue over variable names, function and other trivial shit. At FB, code is disposable.
2) Incredible data tools - our tools and ease of access are best in the industry.
3) No passive aggressive shit! Being Extrovert, outspoken shines at FB. We are ruthless. I realize it doesn't fit many personality but I love it. I like when someone challenges me and corrects me with no sugarcoating. We speak our mind.
4) Fast growth: L6 at Google was a pipe dream. I joined as E5 and can see a clear path to E6 here (working towards it).
5) Sweet TC: our refreshers are very generous.
6) We fire underperfomers: At Google, I saw peers that barely worked and maintained CME. Google doesn't fire. FB is ruthless, either perform or leave.
7) My WLB is slightly worse than Google. I worked 35h and now ~45h/w and received GE here. Stress is higher here, but stress is how one grows.
FB is not for everyone but those who fits here should love it.
[Blind rule]
~$400k TC..I am E5

I get it though. It's a tough concept for many googlers. There were many when I was there who had their foot on the gas pedal going nowhere careerwise.
The fast paced nature of the environment and the ability to get promoted fast if you are cut for it can burn many people if they always aim too high above their comfort zone.
If you're leveled appropriately relative to your skills and the team is right, it's not extremely challenging to succeed and keep wlb
This is well said! I canโt really comment one way or other on the other parts of the discussion here as both sides seemed to have valid points, but postponing happiness for a distant future dream is not a great idea. No one can predict the future. Live as happily as one can possibly be in the present.
I would question, if I run out of work at the 40th hour or earlier on a regular basis, if I actually like the work I am doing.
If you have kids at home, family waiting, it is understandable and nothing wrong it. Just saying if I am building something that excites me, I would work on it more anyway.
