Wrapped up my Square interview for L5 late last week. Here’s how I think I did:

Coding 1 - C
Coding 2 - A+
Coding 3 - B
Past experience interview - A
System Design - C+

Coding 1 I got flustered for about 5 mins near the end but recovered well after a hint.

System design I honestly don’t know how I did. Interviewers seemed engaged the entire time and I didn’t get hung up on anything but who knows.

Am I screwed? Was really hard to get a read on any of the interviewers. Other than coding 2 I don’t think I hit it out of the park on anything. Does Square hire average performers like me?

Also let’s say my system design sucked, what are the chances they offer me L4 instead?

TC - $225k
YOE - 6-7 years

Probably! Their SD is everything for senior levels. All my coding rounds went perfect and I absolutely nailed each of it except the SD. The recruiter confirmed this. They asked me to redo SD and I was having a bad day. Long story short: Didn’t get the job.

I would still say stay hopeful . Hope you get in. All the best

Progression style pair programming. Questions start easy then progress to LC medium difficulty after a few follow on questions.

Choosing the right data structure in the beginning oftentimes will make the follow on questions easier or much harder depending on if you chose poorly.

My tip is not to spend too long on the initial questions because you want to get to the follow on questions and have enough time to change your design if necessary.
